ALSFH President Divina Telan Robillard recently visited Cheryl Kellett in the family home in Kalihi in reply to husband, Mel’s request for respite help. In a phone conversation earlier today, Bristol Hospice RN Sheena Erice said that Cheryl passed away from natural causes on September 26, three days after Robillard posted about the visit. She further explained that Cheryl’s case had been transferred to Islands Hospice because Bristol does not have a policy of assisting patients off the ventilator, which was Cheryl’s request.
A voicemail message left by Rick Kellett, Cheryl’s son, said that it was Cheryl’s desire not to have a memorial service after her passing. Her remains were cremated.
Cheryl told her story to Katherine O’Connor when she was an in-patient briefly at the Care Center of Honolulu. It appears on this website under “Our Stories.”
ALSFH, together with the entire ALS Community in Hawaii, mourns Cheryl’s passing and wishes her family a health healing in due time. May she rest in peace.
