From our many consultations with the pioneers, Berman and Saling, and with other states, there are two things essential to starting an ALS Residence:
- Finding a non-profit Skilled Nursing Provider to partner with; and
- Creating an Endowment Fund of $40 Million so that the 10-bed Residence will be FUNDED IN PERPETUITY.
We have already taken steps to advance in both directions. We have met with St. Francis Healthcare and the Queen’s Healthcare, both of which signified interest. We have others on our list to follow-up with, including Castle Medical Center, Liliuokalani Homes, etc.
In the final analysis, everyone will look at how ALSFH, as an organization, and our ALS community and friends, will generate the money required to keep the ALS Residence operating. As a Board, we have a 3-year Strategic Plan to get us started. We plan to hold people’s trust as we pursue our mission with fiscal prudence and due diligence, while we uphold an industry/culture-changing concept as an end-goal.
WITH YOUR HELP, HAWAII CAN HAVE THE FOURTH (4th) ALS RESIDENCE IN THE NATION; the THIRD (3rd) STATE TO HAVE ONE.
