HiNAMI President Bea Ramos-Razon and ALSFH President Divina Telan Robillard pose with city and senate representatives after Ramos-Razon handed Robillard a certificate of recognition from Senator Mazie Hirono.

November 19, 2018, Kailua, HI.  Since 2001, Hawaii Nurse Advocates and Mentors, Inc. (HiNAMI) has been offering free review classes to graduates of foreign nursing schools to help them pass the RN-NCLEX licensing examinations.  Current teaching and mentoring volunteer staff now include those who have been through these review classes themselves.  Founding President Bea Ramos-Razon is the energy and force behind this long-lasting community service that provides opportunities for professional nurses from academe and health care institutions to help swell the ranks of much needed nurses in the state.  Ramos-Razon also volunteers her services to ALSFH as fundraising support.

Every Saturday before Thanksgiving, the annual HiNAMI event recognizes the efforts of volunteer instructors in an endearing ceremony attended by local supporters and legislators, featuring the recently passed RN’s and their instructors. This year’s event was held on November 17, 2018 at the Filipino Community Center Ballroom.

HiNAMI offers two sessions of reviews during the year, every Wednesday at the Filipino Community Center in Waipahu.  The reviewees practice on simulated tests in the classrooms as well as attend lectures by volunteer instructors.  ALSFH Divina Robillard is a volunteer instructor on Care of the Patient with ALS. Robillard and Ramos-Razon are both members of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association, as graduates of the College of Nursing and Philippine General Hospital School of Nursing, respectively.
