May 11, 2019, Honolulu, Hawaii. A small but dedicated group of ALS supporters skipped afternoon nap time to attend the 2:30 pm Mayor Caldwell Proclamation of “May as ALS Awareness and ALS Families Appreciation Month” at the Mayor’s Conference Room at Honolulu Hale. The simple ceremony was led by City Managing Director Roy Amemiya for the second time in as many years the Mayor Proclamation was held in Honolulu.

After MD Amemiya received the lei from Ronaele, he asked the group to update him of ALS Community happenings since last year.  MD Amemiya also showed the group, half of whom did not attend last year’s proclamation event, his framed picture of Lou Gehrig which he has hanging on his office wall at the HH. Amemiya is an avid baseball fan.

Attending the event were John and Sandy Repczynski, representing pALS and their families.  Jennifer Schack represented ALS Association Golden West.

We are thankful to University of the Philippines Alumni Association-Hawaii members, Bea Ramos-Razon, Nieva Elizaga, Melody Calisay, and current President Jun Gappe, for their support. Legacy of Life’s Alpha Wong and Interim CEO Gerry Estrella, MD., were also present.

Divina responds to Amemiya’s request for updates on the Hawaii ALS scene since last year’s Proclamation which he also presided in the absence of the Mayor.
